Eddie Bauer Rocking Wood Bassinets and Graco Classic Wood Highchairs recalled due to suffocation and falling hazards. If you’re the parent of an infant or have a little one on the way, take note. Two recent product recalls involve a popular rocking bassinet and highchair, say product liability attorneys in Jacksonville and Orlando. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recalls of Eddie Bauer Rocking Wood Bassinets and Graco Classic Wood Highchairs, citing suffocation and fall hazards. Manufactured in China and distributed by Dorel Juvenile Group of Columbus, Ind., the Eddie Bauer Rocking Wood Bassinet has a bottom locking mechanism that can fail to lock properly if a spring is not installed. This allows the bassinet to tip to one side and cause an infant to roll to the side of the bassinet, resulting in a suffocation hazard to the baby. At the time of this writing, Dorel had received 17 reports of tipping incidents, including two that left infants with breathing difficulties. The recalled bassinets were sold at Target, Toys R Us and Sears stores nationwide and online at Ebay and other websites from December 2007 through January 2011 for about $150. They have dark brown wooden headboards and footboards and come with cotton bassinet insets in a variety of colors and patterns. Each features a dial at the base of the footboard that locks and unlocks the rocking motion of the bassinet, and the name “Eddie Bauer” printed on a metal plate. Look beneath the mattress, on the top surface of the mattress support board or on the was-and-care label for one of these model numbers: 10632, 10639, 10832, 10835, 10839 and BT021. If you purchased one of these basinets and your infant has not been injured, call Dorel toll-free at (877) 416-0165 for a free repair kit, which includes a spring and new assembly instructions. Atlanta-based Graco Children’s Products, Inc., maker of the recalled Graco Classic Wood Highchair, has received 58 reports of the high chairs’ seats loosening or detaching from the base. Of them, nine involved children falling and sustaining bumps, bruises and scratches, plus one concussion. Recalled units come in three wood finishes with a beige fabric seat cover. Each features a top seat, bottom leg assembly and removable tray. Look for the model number 3C00BPN, 3C00BPN TC, 3C00CHY, 3C00CHY TC, 3C00CPO or 3C00CPO TC printed on a label on the underside of the seat assembly. The chairs were sold at Babies R Us, Burlington Coat Factory and other retail stores nationwide and in Canada, and at Target.com and Walmart.com and other online retailers between September 2007 and December 2010 for about $130.
